Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC)

A continuing care community offers extensive amenities while providing a maintenance-free lifestyle through a comprehensive lifetime range of services. These include housing, residential assistance as needed, and nursing care, all located within a one-campus setting. Residents in continuing care communities live in housing, according to their needs and desires, with the option of moving from one level of care to another within the community. For example, a new resident may first move into an independent living situation in a private, individual home, cottage or apartment. Should daily care become necessary, the resident can then move into an assisted living area or community. Nursing home care is available for those who require a higher level of care. Continuing care communities, some of which are certified, generally require an advance entry fee and the new resident must sign a contract containing information on the services that are provided/available and the cost of those services. Continuing care contracts usually require the resident to use the community’s nursing home if nursing care is needed.
